Isolated Incidents by Mermaidman and Barnacleboy (aka Jlm121 and kappagirl) I am still torn as to what to do. Part of me knows that it is none of my business and that I should just let it go, but the image of the Commish kissing Miss Davis just won't vacate my mind. Kissing her. In public. On the mouth. The boss would not like that. Hell, I don't like that. But now I don't know if I should tell him or not. And would he care? It's been a weird morning. She's just entered the building and my duty ends here. I head to the parking garage looking for Francis and Max. Like the kids in catholic school we used to be we tend to gravitate to quiet areas to smoke. Max is leaning against the hood of the limo and seems to be searching for a lighter. He catches the silver plated Zippo I throw with ease. "Hey." He flicks it open and gives me a bad smile. "How's dame duty?" I debate for a moment telling him. "At least she doesn't shop." "You lucked out with her you know." "Yeah well Francis is new, he deserves the tough jobs." "He'll live." I lean next to him against the car and he hands me the open pack. "If he's lucky. How's the boss man?" "I can't tell. Something's weird up there." "She's back, weird is going to be the norm from now on." "I really thought we'd moved past that." "We?" "He. You know what I mean." "Hey, I don't like her any more than you do." "Nobody likes her. At least we don't have to sleep with her." "I just thought...I mean...It's none of my business." "Ms. Davis?" "Yeah." "Me too." We stand there for a few seconds taking smokes and reviewing histories. "Speaking of weird things...." Might as well tell him. "More weird?" "Very weird" "'Carly back from the dead' weird?" "'Ms. Davis kissing Commissioner Scorpio' weird." Max is stunned for just second then he shakes his head. "I knew I wasn't imagining things." I am almost floored. You think you know a guy.... "This isn't an isolated event?" "It's her business, no skin off my nose." "When?" "Last summer. You were on vacation." Suddenly vacations seem like bad ideas "What happened?" "You know...you sound like a 15 year old looking for gossip. Or checking on a girl he thinks is messing around on him." "And I'm telling you that not twenty minutes ago Ms. Davis was in the park kissing the Commish...again...so it seems." At the time, I guess it didn't really register. It just seemed really odd." "Max?" "She'd just bailed her out of some other mess. I don't know. They were all at the PCPD." There is venom on the word 'her', and I can tell it is not a night he remembers fondly. "What happened?" "He took her home." "That's all?" "Well, she was...um...vamping for him on his car too." "Vamping?" "I feel ridiculous." "She vamped for the Commish?" "She flashed her legs." We are both silent for a minute. We know those legs. "She flashed a little leg and he brought her back here?" "Not here. His place." His place. No way. Max chuckles. "Yeah, can you see her bringing him here? Good one." For a moment I can see the hallway between the penthouses awash in yellow police tape and forensics tech photographing blood splatters. "Where's he live again?" "Over that restaurant of his. The wetback or the outback. whatever." I nod silently, as the pieces of the puzzle come together. "She was there all night, I'll tell you that. I was pretty damned nervous sitting there in front of the Commish's house Didn't know how I'd explain it to the cops or to her." "All night, eh?" "All night. She comes out at dawn in the same suit and a smile." The kiss in the park is seeming pretty tame. "Interesting." "At the time, yeah it was." "Why didn't you say anything before?" "Isolated incident." "Guess what? Not so isolated anymore." "You think that she and the Commish got more than isolated incidents going on? I think for a minute. "No. Not right now anyway. But he had that look..." Max laughs. "The look." "The boss gets it sometimes..." "I know the look. In fact..." I swear to God, I'm going to be forced to hit him. "In fact, what?" "About a month ago, I had to bring something over to the boss late at night." "So? Happens all the time." "Yeah but her purse isn't there all the time." "Ms. Davis?" "It was after midnight." "Maybe she left it." "No. I'm almost sure she didn't leave it. I'm almost positive she hadn't left yet." "Maybe it was business?" "Boss conducts a lot of business in his bathrobe, doesn't he?" "You think they. . . ." "If they did...I won the pool. I had April." "That's all you can think about?" "It's five hundred bucks." "So now this makes even less sense." "Yep." "After that. And she's back. And Ms. Davis locking lips with the Commish." "In public" "And he's got that look." "And what look would that be gentlemen?" Busted. This is worse than the nuns. Cause they would just smack you with the ruler. Now we gotta explain. "I believe I asked you a question." Here goes nothing.... Now... "Well you see Boss, Max and I were just talking...." *finis*
